THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Under-18 Kings will be on home ice this weekend for a pair of Great North U18 Hockey League contests against the Timmins Majors at Fort William First Nation Arena.
The Kings and Majors will kick off their two-game set Saturday in a 7 p.m. start at FWFNA.
They’ll then finish up Sunday morning with a 10 a.m. face-off back at FWFNA.
Thunder Bay currently sits tied for second in the GNU18HL standings with a 2-1-1 record while Timmins lies atop the 10-team table at 4-0-0.
Players to watch on the Majors include left winger Jordan Martineau who leads the league in scoring with 11 points, including seven goals, while defencemen Jack Cyr shares top spot in offensive production among blueliners with seven points, which are all assists.
Netminders Jaret Fenton-Chypyha and Rydder O’Quinn are both 2-0 with goals-against averages of 1.00 and 2.00 respectively.
The Kings duo of forwards Kellan Ozerkevich and Nathan Vita presently pace Thunder Bay offensively with five points apiece.
Goaltender Nolan Meadows is 1-1-0 early in league play and Kainaan MacGillivray sports a 1-0-1 mark.
Meanwhile, Thunder Bay’s U15 squad will travel to Fargo, N.D., this weekend to compete in the Fall Showcase event there.
They’ll begin competition Friday with an 11:15 a.m. ET match-up versus the Colorado Rampage.
Game 2 of the day features a 7:15 p.m. meeting with the Sioux Falls Power.
Their lone contest Saturday sees them taking on the Rocky Mountain Rough Riders in an 11:30 a.m. puck drop.
The U15 Kings will then finish up Sunday at 1 p.m., when they go up against Team North Dakota.
