Peewee Kings get good competition in Detroit

ETROIT, Mich. – The Thunder Bay peewee Kings are returning home from the Bauer Motown Classic tournament, presented by Legacy Global Sports, after competing in four tightly contested match-ups.

In all, the Thunder Bay peewees went 0-1-3 with a one-goal setback and a trio of ties.

The Kings began with a narrow 4-3 defeat vs. the Northeast Wisconsin Jr. Gamblers before settling for a 4-4 draw against the Dallas Stars Elite, then rallying late in a 3-3 saw-off with the Mississauga Reps and finishing with a 3-3 decision in their finale vs. the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals.

Beginning against the Gamblers, Matthew Lysak staked Thunder Bay to the lead before the Wisconsin side countered with four straight tallies.

The Kings did battle back in the late going as Mitchell Vanderway at even strength and Carter Deschamps, via the power play, made it close before time expired.

Taking on Dallas, the peewees opened the scoring once again thanks to a Peter Forester goal.

After Max Leduc put his club up by two, the Stars struck three times in the middle stanza to take a 3-2 lead into the third.

In that final frame, the back and forth affair saw Deschamps and Jordan Fanti put the Kings draw even then move back in front only to see the Reps round out the scoring with 3:15 remaining.

Lysak and Owen Renn dished out two assists apiece in the tie.

Against Mississauga, Lucas Betolin gave Thunder Bay the lead in the first period before the Reps equalized.

Emerson DeGiacomo put the Kings back on top in the middle session only to see Mississauga connect on the power play to knot the affair at 2-2 after two.

The Reps then took their first lead with 1:07 remaining, however Vanderway came right back 46 seconds later to help pull out the tie.

In the meeting with Milwaukee, the Kings collected markers from Lysak, Nolen Sloan and Forester while Carter Deschamps dished out two assists in the draw.

Carter George and Chase Furlong both saw action in net for Thunder Bay over the course of the weekend.
