Bantam Kings edged in Silver Stick opener on bad bounce

PORT HURON, Mich. – Thunder Bay bantam Kings dropped their opening game at the 55th annual Silver Stick International tournament in Port Huron, Mich., Thursday after they were edged 2-1 by the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies of Michigan.

Oakland got on the board first in the contest midway through the opening period only to see Thunder Bay come right back with the equalizer 72 seconds later on a Travis Hensrud effort.

The tight-checking affair stayed that way until late in regulation when the Grizzlies got the game-winner with 1:32 remaining on a lucky bounce as a clearing attempt hit a stancion, changed direction and caroomed into an open net.

The Kings are back at it twice Friday in Port Huron beginning with a 12:30 p.m. encounter vs. the York-Simcoe Express before tangling with the Chicago Fury at 8 p.m.
