Kings conclude Round 3 of NAPHL play in Michigan

TROY, Mich. – The Thunder Bay Kings concluded Round 3 play in the North American Prospects Hockey League in Troy, Mich., Monday with the minor midget side skating to a 4-1 victory over the Connecticut Elite while the major midgets dropped a 2-1 decision to the New Jersey Titans in a shootout.

The minor midgets capped off a 4-1 weekend with the triumph over Connecticut.

Nikolas Campbell finished off a Michael Stubbs feed 96 seconds into the contest to give Thunder Bay the early lead.

It stayed 1-0 into the third period where Mackenzie Sedgwick upped the Kings’ cushion a half minute into the final frame.

Mason Bazaluk then made it 3-0 at 2:26 before the Elite got on the board during a man advantage at the six-minute mark.

However Stubbs added some insurance in the late going with a power play marker of his own to round out the scoring.

Thunder Bay outshot Connecticut 34-31 in the contest with Stephan Bourgeois recording the win.

Major midget action against New Jersey saw the first period go scoreless.

Jonathon Kilby would put the Kings in front 3:31 into the second stanza only to see the Titans draw level 10 and a half minutes later.

It stayed tied through the remainder of regulation and overtime sending it to the shootout to determine a winner.

There New Jersey would prevail to pick-up the extra point in the match-up.

Jordan Smith suffered the setback in goal for Thunder Bay who finished 1-3-1 in under-18 play in Round 3.
