Major midget Kings advance to semifinals in Troy tourney

TROY, Mich. – The Thunder Bay major midget Kings have advanced to the semifinals of the Troy Top Shelf North American Future Prospects tournament in Troy, Mich.

Thunder Bay takes to the ice against the Kensington Valley Rebels in semifinal action Monday morning at 8:55 a.m. with a berth to the championship awaiting the winner later in the day at 1:55 p.m.

The Kings earned their way to the semis after going unbeaten in round robin action with a 3-0-1 record, which included a 2-2 draw with the Carmel Gold Icehounds of Indiana and a 3-0 decision over AWP Elite from Fort Wayne, Ind., in their final two contests.

In the match-up vs. the Icehounds, Thunder Bay got tallies from Jacob Brown and Kirk Coppock and a stellar 43-save performance from Tyler Szturm to help his side earn the draw.

Against AWP Elite, the Kings saw Robbie McCollum, Jayden Wojciechowski and Cody Bruchkowski all notch markers in the decision while Ryan Fanti only had to handle 10 shots in posting the shutout.
