Major midget Kings off to Kenora for HNO Districts

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay major midget Kings are off to Kenora this weekend for the Hockey Northwestern Ontario AAA midget district championship.

The best-of-three series will get underway Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET at the Kenora Recreation Centre.

Game 2 will go Saturday at the same time and, if necessary, a third a deciding contest will be held Sunday back in Kenora at 2:30 p.m. ET.

The HNO champion will move on to represent the region at the TELUS Cup West Regional, March 31 through April 3 in Saskatoon, Sask.

That four-team event will feature the HNO winner going up against the respective AAA midget title holders from Manitoba and Saskatchewan, as well as the host Saskatoon Contacts with a berth to the TELUS Cup national midget championship, April 18-24, in Quispamsis, N.B.

Meanwhile the minor midget Kings will be in Sudbury this weekend for the three-game set against Team Northern Ontario Hockey Association in a tune-up, for both teams, for the OHL Cup, which runs March 15-21 in Toronto.

Thunder Bay and Team NOHA commence play Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The same two sides will then meet twice Saturday starting at 11:30 a.m. before wrapping up the series later that day at 7:30 p.m.

All three contests will be held at Garson Arena.
