Minor midget Kings earn NAPHL U-16 honours

FRISCO, Tex. – The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) announced Wednesday its all-NAPHL first, second and third all-star teams, as well as its all-Academic team, in the under-16 division for the 2016-17 season.

Among the recipients were five members of the Thunder Bay minor midget Kings.

Forward Owen Belisle earned NAPHL third team honours while Gareth Aegard, Keighan Gerrie, Christian Veneruzzo and Kadin Ilot all garnered all-academic accoaldes.

Belisle shared the Thunder Bay team lead in scoring in NAPHL U-16 action during the campaign.

In 23 games, Belisle picked up 22 points on eight goals and 14 assists, which tied him with teammate Gerrie in club offensive production.

Gerrie notched nine tallies and chipped in with 13 helpers on the ice while also picking up the all-academic nod along with fellow-forward Veneruzzo, who topped the team with a dozen goals.

Aegard and Ilot stood out in the classroom while helping bolster the Kings’ defensive corps.

Consideration and selection for the on-ice awards were based on player performance in all NAPHL games throughout the 2016-17 season.
