U18 Kings complete weekend sweep in GNHL action

THUNDER BAY – A successful road swing for the Thunder Bay under-18 Kings over the weekend saw them sweep a four-game slate in Great North Hockey League action, taking two games apiece from the Kapuskasing Flyers and Timmins Jr. Rock.

Beginning with a 7-4 triumph in Kapuskasing Friday, the Kings scored three times while shorthanded and also added a power play marker as part of the victory.

Owen Trevisanutto helped pace the Kings offensively with a pair of tallies and a couple of assists, while teammate Michael Figliomeni had a goal and a trio of helpers.

Also finding the back of the net were Sam Pierce; Lincoln MacLean; Darwin Brinkman and Gunner Obie.

Carson Bresolin picked up the win in net.

Next saw the club striking twice in each period as they came away victorious in Timmins 6-2 Saturday in the first of two against the Rock.

Keegan Weldon notched a pair of tallies in the victory and aided on another, while Pierce; Figliomeni; Brinkman and Ben Krys also connected.

As part of Kainaan MacGillivray’s efforts between the pipes was stopping a penalty shot deep in regulation.

Buoyed by Bresolin’s initial GNHL shutout, Thunder Bay stymied Timmins 7-0 in their third game of the trip.

The duo of Figliomeni (2G-1A) and Trevisanutto (1G-2A) did their part once again in the win.

Emmitt Adduono (1G-1A) and Jackson Pucci (1G-1A) and a marker from Weldon added to the one-sided result.

The Kings then capped things off by skating to a 4-3 victory over the Flyers Sunday afternoon.

Two more tallies off the stick of Figliomeni, including the game-winner, saw him finish off with 10 points on the trip.

Trevisanutto had another goal, for nine points in total, and Weldon were the other Thunder Bay marksmen, with MacGillivray collecting the win.

The Kings now sit tied for third in the GNHL standings with a record of 7-7-0-0.

Meanwhile, the Figliomeni, Trevisanutto duo are just two points off top spot in league scoring with 18 apiece.

Among those GNHL netminders who have seen 300-plus minutes of game action, MacGillivray holds down third spot in goal-against average at 3.23 and he is fourth in wins with four.
