Whitby waltzes by Kenora in U13 provincial action

THUNDER BAY – The Whitby Wildcats scored three times each while shorthanded, and on the power play, as they went on to waltz past the Kenora Thistles 11-0 in Day 2 play at the All-Ontario under-13 AAA championship, presented by BioSteel, at the Fort William Gardens.

Whitby put the game away early by striking five times in the opening period on tallies from William Knight, Ryder Hobes, Braydon Cornacchia, Jaxson Menary and Shea Huinnick.

Adding to their cushion in the middle stanza were Menary and Huinink, who each supplied their second markers of the contest.

The Wildcats then finished off the one-sided result in the final frame with four more goals.

Notching those offensive efforts were Menary, who capped off a hat trick, Knight, Colton Fry and Bence Kolobutin.

Lukas Butler made 19 stops for the OMHA champions to record the win and post the shutout.

Nobes dished out four assists, to go with his marker, to earn player of the game honours for Whitby while Sullivan Bowen picked up the award for Kenora.
