WHITBY, Ont. – Facing some of the top competition in their age group within the province, the Thunder Bay minor midget Kings are returning home after finishing with a 1-3 record at the Gloria Rints Memorial Silver Stick tournament in Whitby, Ont.
Friday saw the Kings take on the No. 1 ranked minor midget club in Ontario, the Toronto Marlboros, where they dropped a 5-0 decision.
Stephan Bourgeois suffered the setback in goal while Connor MacKenzie posted the shutout for the Marlboros.
Up next for Thunder Bay was a meeting with the Niagara North Stars, who are ranked eighth in the province and once again they could not get on the score sheet as they fell 4-0.
After a scoreless first period, Niagara tallied twice in each of the final two frames to pick-up the win.

Moving on, the Kings took on another rated side, in the host Whitby Wildcats, who skated to a 4-3 victory.
Again the first frame was scoreless before Whitby struck twice in the middle stanza to go up by a pair.
Mason Bazaluk did get one back before the session was complete only to see the Wildcats add another early in the third.
Battling back, the minor midgets struck twice in the frame on goals from Bazaluk and Mackenzie Sedgwick to knot the affair at 3-3.
However Whitby would prevail late, getting the game-winner with 96 seconds left in regulation.
Cole MacKenzie had two assists in the loss for the Kings with Bourgeois playing in net.
Wrapping up game action in Whitby, Thunder Bay finished on a positive note by beating the North Bay Trappers 5-2.
Michael Stubbs was the offensive catalyst for the Kings in this contest as he scored once and doled out three assists for a four-point game.
