Major midget Kings improve to 2-1, minors fall to 0-3, at NAPHL Dixon Cup playoff tournament

TROY, Mich. – The Thunder Bay major midget Kings rode the 34-save performance of netminder Ryan Fanti to help lift his side to a 2-1 victory over the St. Louis Selects Saturday at the North American Prospects Hockey League’s Dixon Cup Gold Division championship tournament in Troy, Mich.

Meanwhile the Kings’ minor midgets fell to 0-3 after dropping a 5-0 decision to Omaha AAA and 3-1 against the Esmark Stars of Pennsylvania.

In the major midgets triumph over St. Louis, Cody Bruchkowski put Thunder Bay on the board 10:39 into the contest as he converted during a man advantage opportunity.

Elijah Loon-Stewardson made it 2-0 just past the six-minute mark of the middle stanza as the Kings went up by a pair.

The Selects got one back, via the power play, 25 seconds into the third, but Fanti shut the door the rest of the way backstopping his team to the win in a game in which they were outshot 35-18 overall.

In minor midget action Jordan Smith was peppered with 42 shots in the loss to Omaha with their goalkeeper Kohl Reddy making 15 saves in posting the shutout.

Meanwhile in the setback against Esmark, Jesse Appel had the lone tally for the Kings in defeat.

Both the major and minors return to game action Sunday against yet to be determined opponents.
