Kings go unbeaten in weekend play

THUNDER BAY – Both the Thunder Bay under-18 and U15 Kings had a very successful weekend on the ice, going unbeaten is six total games.

In Great North U18 Hockey League action at Fort William First Nation Arena, Thunder Bay swept the previously unbeaten Timmins Majors, winning by scores of 4-2 Saturday and 4-0 Sunday.

Meanwhile at the Fargo Fall Showcase in North Dakota, the U15 Kings skated away with four victories in as many contests.

GNU18HL play saw Nathan Vita tally twice and Nate Girvin dish out three assists for Thunder Bay in the opener.

Also scoring were Sawyer Smith and Michael Figliomeni while Nolan Meadows picked up the win in net.

In the finale, Kainaan MacGillivray posted the shutout in backstopping the club to the triumph.

Nathan Caputo picked up the eventual game-winner early in the contest before an Owen Bodnar effort in the middle stanza put the home side up by a pair after 40 minutes.

Putting it away in the third period, Vita at even strength, and Aiden Edwards, via the power play, secured the result.

Girvin chipped in with a pair of helpers to aid the offensive cause.

The next GNU18HL competition for the Kings will be Nov. 8-9 as they host the Kapuskasing Flyers back at FWFNA.

Meanwhile, down in Fargo, N.D., the U15 Kings were efficient in victories over the Colorado Rampage (6-1); Sioux Falls Power (6-0); Rocky Mountain Rough Riders (4-2) and Team North Dakota (6-1).

In the win over Colorado, Alex Simeoni led Thunder Bay with a hat trick while Cole Witiluk; Cullen McCormack and Ryder Milani supplied singles.

Maddox Boutette picked up the win in net.

Against Sioux Falls, goaltender Declan Scott was spotless in registering the shutout.

A pair of shorthanded markers off the stick of Mathew Koch, along with a couple of goals from Luke Ritson helped lead the way offensively.

Nolan Grennier and Simeoni also found the back of the net in the win.

Two more tallies from Simeoni and one apiece courtesy of McCormack and Ritson connected for the Kings versus the Rough Riders while Boutette was the winning goalkeeper.

In a match-up with North Dakota, McCormack bagged a pair for Thunder Bay with Witiuk; Ritson; Simeoni and Colin McDonald helping cap-off the four-win weekend. Scott had another victory between the pipes for the U15 Kings.
