Midget Kings go a combined 2-1 in NAPHL play Sunday

BLAINE, Minn. – The two Thunder Bay Kings midget teams competing in Round 4 action in the North American Prospects Hockey League went a combined 2-1 on the ice Sunday in Blaine, Minn.

The major midget Kings defeated the California Titans 5-1 earlier in the day before they were shutout 4-0 by the Rocky Mountain Rough Riders of Colorado.

Meanwhile the minor midgets blanked the St. Louis Selects 2-0 in their lone contest Sunday.

In the decision over the Titans, the U-18 Kings grabbed a 3-0 lead after one period of play getting a pair of goals from Jacob Brown and one thanks to Joel Willan.

Elijah Loon-Stewardson and Garrett Gammond extended the Thunder Bay cushion in the second stanza.

The club got one more from Quintin Loon-Stewardson in the third before California dashed Seth McKay’s shutout bid with nine minutes remaining to round out the scoring.

McKay finished with 15 saves to register the win for his side that fired 34 shots on the Titans net.

In the meeting with Rocky Mountain, the Rough Riders broke open a scoreless game with four second period tallies to secure the win as they scored twice on the power play, once shorthanded and added another at even strength.

Thunder Bay was outshot 34-21 in the contest with Cisco Clark-Silva posting the shutout while Ryan Fanti suffered the loss.

Taking a look at the minor midget match-up, the Kings got the game-winner from Nicholas Hahkala in the opening frame and a second period insurance marker, via the power play, courtesy of Anthony Biniaris to account for the scoring.

Cooper Withersoon dished out two assists in the triumph and Jordan Smith handled all 16 attempts he faced to blank St. Louis.

The major midgets wrap-up Round 4 of the NAPHL Monday at 8:30 a.m. against the New Jersey Titans while the minors take on HC Dallas at 10:30 a.m.
