Brantford rallies late to tie Thunder Bay at peewee provincials

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay peewee Kings were 51 seconds away from picking up their first win at the 2016 all-Ontario championship in Sudbury, but allowed a late goal to the Brantford 99ers in settling for a 1-1 tie in Day 2 play Tuesday afternoon.

After neither side managed to generate any offense in the first period, special teams allowed Thunder Bay to open the scoring in the middle stanza.

There Tyler Lewis fed Matthew Valiquette during a Kings’ man advantage opportunity for his first of the provincial championship with 4:42 to go in the session.

From there Thunder Bay held the lead until the final minute of the contest when Brantford’s Landon McCallum notched the equalizer beating Kings netminder Brayden McKever late to give each side a point in the standings.

Shots on goal were 18 apiece.

With the result, Thunder Bay’s record at the seven-team event goes to 0-1-1.

The Kings are back at again later tonight as they take on the host Sudbury Wolves at 8:15 p.m.
