BRECLAV, Czechia – Thunder Bay Kings alumnus Carter George made 31 saves Saturday to help backstop Canada to a 3-2 overtime victory over Czechia in the gold medal game of the Ivan Hlinka/Wayne Gretzky under-18 tournament.
Winning each of his four starts, in propelling Canada to the title, the 17-year-old George goaltender sported a perfect record in that span.
He was exceptionally stellar in his final three outings, allowing only four goals-against in 200 minutes of work during the time frame, for a 1.20 average, along with a .938 save percentage.
Along with one shutout, George made 22 stops in a 7-2 decision over the United States in semifinal action, before another solid effort between the pipes in the final to bring home gold.
In his time with the Kings, George played for each of the U13, U15 and U16 programs prior to making the move to the junior ranks this past season, which included sporting a very respectable 7-3-0 mark with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack.
Along with that came a 2.41 goal-against average and a .924 save mark as an OHL rookie.
