Kings All-Ontario Day 3 recap

BURLINGTON, Ont. – Action for the Thunder Bay Kings at the two All-Ontario provincial championships taking place in southern Ontario Wednesday saw the under-13 side fall 3-0 to the Huron-Perth Lakers in Burlington while at Middlesex Centre, the U-15s split their two games dropping a 7-1 decision to the host Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs, before rebounding for a 3-2 victory over the North Bay Trappers.

Huron-Perth netminder Vaughn Barr was equal to the task on every shot he faced in blanking the Kings.

After a scoreless first frame, the Lakers broke out of their zone off a face off and collected the eventual game-winner with Lyndon Cabral whipping one in from the slot, on an odd-man rush.

After Thunder Bay narrowly missed getting an equalizer on a partial break in the third, Huron-Perth countered and added some insurance, jamming one in from the top of the crease with 5:39 remaining, before securing the victory with a late empty-netter.

Kings’ goaltender Lukkas Moffat collected his club’s player of the game honour and made a number of quality stops throughout the contest, in defeat.

The U-13s will wrap-up their campaign Thursday, having games against the Ottawa Valley Titans and the unbeaten Don Mills Flyers at 11 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. respectively.

Over in Middlesex Centre, Ont., the U-15 Kings saw Carter Poddubny pick-up the lone tally for Thunder Bay in the defeat versus Elgin-Middlesex with help courtesy of Jack Lambert and Hudson Gerry.

In their contest with North Bay, Rashaad Eichenberg notched the game-winner with just over two minutes remaining in regulation to pull out the win, moments after a power play had expired.

Liam Labelle and Easton Mikus also scored for the Kings, with Cooper Labelle and Dakota Cooper picking up assists.

Thunder Bay goaltender Chase Furlong made 25 saves, featuring one on a late second period penalty shot, to record the win.

With a record of 1-4-0 at the provincials, there will be one final game for the U-15 Kings in their 2021-22 season, which goes Thursday at 12:15 p.m., as they take on the Halton Hurricanes.
