Tournament time for minor midget & bantam Kings

he Thunder Bay minor midget and bantam Kings are on the road this weekend to compete in tournament play.

Thunder Bay’s minor midgets head to Whitby, Ont., to take part in the Gloria Rinns Memorial Silver Stick while the bantams will be in Winnipeg for the Jets Classic event.

Game action for the Kings in Whitby begins Friday at 9:30 a.m. at they meet Detroit Little Caesars before facing off against the North Central Predators out of Orillia, Ont., at 3 p.m.

Saturday sees two more contests on Thunder Bay’s slate beginning with an 8:45 a.m. match-up with the Mississauga Rebels before concluding round robin competition vs. the Edmonton SSAC Bulldogs at 3:35 p.m.

A total of 30 teams are competing in the AAA minor midget portion in Whitby.

As for the bantam Kings, they are one of 16 squads in Winnipeg vying for the title there.

Their opening match-up goes Thursday at 5:45 p.m. vs. the St. Albert Sabres from Alberta.

Awaiting Thunder Bay Friday will be the Winnipeg Monarchs at 9:15 a.m. and the Minot Wolves of North Dakota at 4:15 p.m.

Quarter-final and semifinal competition goes Saturday while medal and consolation games are set for Sunday.
