Joe Newhouse

This is Joe’s first year as Head Coach in the Thunder Bay Kings Program, but he had served as an assistant coach for the previous 4 seasons. Prior to coaching, Joe played in the Thunder Bay Kings program for 3 seasons.

After playing with the Kings, Joe went on to play Junior A hockey in Thunder Bay while also attending Lakehead University, receiving his Honours Bachelor in Kinesiology and a Masters in Business Administration. Both his playing experience and education helps form Joe’s coaching philosophy. Growing up playing hockey, while also having a constant thirst for knowledge helps Joe put the players that he coaches in the best place to succeed not only on the ice, but off the ice as well. Joe believes hockey should be a fun and positive environment that also encourages healthy competition.

Joe believes player development should be at the forefront of any Thunder Bay Kings team. Joe is extremely fortunate to have Lonny Bohonos, Ian Swalucynski, Collin White, and Ryan Currie on the staff with him. Each of these coaches have many years’ experience and have been invaluable to him and his development as a coach.

Joe considers himself very fortunate to be able to coach in the Thunder Bay Kings program, and to be able to be in a position where he is a role model for young players. He feels it is a very special opportunity to play a role in helping these players chase and achieve their dreams as young hockey players.
