Fresh off winning the eight-team Border Battle at the Thunder Bay Tournament Centre over the weekend, the under-15 AAA Kings will be traveling to southern Ontario to conclude their Greater Toronto Hockey League campaign.
They’ll begin Friday with a meeting against the Toronto Young Nationals (11-21-1) at 8:45 p.m.
Saturday’s slate has a pair on contests on Thunder Bay’s docket.
First-up will be a 10:45 a.m. encounter versus the Toronto Red Wings (6-26-3), followed by a tough match-up with the highly-touted Toronto Jr. Canadiens (26-4-4) at 4:30 p.m., in their second game of the day.
They’ll then finish-up Sunday at 9:30 a.m., when they take on the Mississauga Rebels (11-16-8).
Meanwhile, the under-18 Kings wrapped up their GTHL campaign with defeats to the Jr. Canadiens (6-2); Markham Majors (4-3) and the Toronto Titans (4-1), to end up going 5-27-3 overall.
They’ll now gear up to meet the Kenora Thistles in the Hockey Northwestern Ontario U18 district championship, March 21-23, in Kenora.
As the Thistles are also hosting the TELUS Cup West Regional April 3-6, both clubs will advance to that four-team event, along with the title holders of the Manitoba and Saskatchewan U18 AAA Leagues.
The West Regional winner will then move on to compete in the TELUS Cup national U18 championship, that goes April 21-27 in Chilliwack, B.C.
