Kings battle to 1-1 draw with Halifax

HUNDER BAY, Ont. – A Mackenzie Sedgwick marker 12:42 into the second period proved to be the tying tally as the Thunder Bay Kings battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw with the Halifax Macs Thursday in Day 4 play at the 2019 TELUS Cup Canadian National Midget Hockey Championship at the Fort William Gardens.

It was Halifax that opened the scoring as they capitalized on an early man advantage opportunity as defenceman Liam Keeping let a low shot go from the point that eluded Thunder Bay starter Eric Vanska at 3:46.

The tight-checking session opening frame stayed 1-0 for the visitors through the remainder of the first period.

The Kings would draw even past the half-way mark of the middle stanza.

After breaking out of their own zone, Bryson Cataldo fed one in front from the right wing where a waiting Sedgwick chipped one over a sprawling Jacob Goobie in the Macs net.

It was a goaltenders battle the rest of the way as each goalkeeper was flawless the rest of the way as the two teams wrapped up the contest with one point apiece.

Thunder Bay held the edge in shots on goal by a 30-26 count.

The Kings will wrap-up their season Friday as they meet the unbeaten Magog Cantonniers at 6:30 p.m. back at the Gardens.
