Kings close out latest round of NAPHL play with pair of wins
Major midgets blank Shattuck; Stubbs scores all 4 in minor midget’s win over Dallas

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Kings wrapped up competition in Round 4 in the North American Prospects Hockey League Monday with a pair of victories as both the major and minor midget sides skated to triumphs.

Under-18 division play saw Thunder Bay earn a 3-0 decision over the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres while the Kings under-16 minor midget squad had Michael Stubbs score all four of his team’s tallies as they topped the Dallas Blackhawks 4-1.

In the U-18 win over Shattuck, Kyle Swerhun collected his fifth NAPHL tally of the season midway through the first period in what proved to be the eventual game-winning goal.

Thunder Bay added another before the opening frame was complete as Isaiah Lawson fed Jacob Anttonen for his sixth league marker at 13:26.

An early power play in the middle stanza helped the Kings tack on one more with Michael Vecchio finding the back of the net during the man advantage.

Netminder Seth McKay did the rest as he turned aside all 22 shots he faced to post the shutout.

His teammates fired 30 attempts on the Sabres’ goal.

Meanwhile in the U-16 match-up with Dallas, it was the Stubbs show as he notched all four Thunder Bay markers in the victory.

He began his impressive showing scoring just 18 seconds into the contest.

After the Blackhawks tied it at 10:11 of the first, Stubbs struck again on the next shift to notch his second of the period and 10th overall to put the Kings back in front once more.

Stubbs then added more in each of the final two periods to finish off his four-goal outburst with the U-16 standout now having scored at least once in eight of his past nine NAPHL outings.

Mason Bazaluk and Dawson Lampi both had a pair of assists each to aid the Thunder Bay offensive cause while Kings’ goaltender Stephan Bourgeois picked up the win in net.
