Kings hit win column at OHL Cup with OT triumph

TORONTO – A Nicholas Fazzari goal 50 seconds into overtime lifted the Thunder Bay minor midget Kings to a 2-1 come from behind victory over the Waterloo Wolves Wednesday evening at the OHL Cup in Toronto.

With the result, Thunder Bay improves to 1-1 at the 20-team event heading into their next contest, an 8:30 a.m. start Thursday against the Hamilton Jr. Bulldogs.

In Wednesday’s contest, Waterloo opened the scoring after a scoreless first period on a Mitchell Hoelscher marker at 9:41 of the second.

The Kings’ Quintin Loon-Stewardson forced OT as he notched the equalizer early in the third with Matthew Difranco and Eric Wiersema supplying assists.

Fazzari then won it for Thunder Bay before OT was a minute old.

Jett Leishman and Matthew Bevilacqua picked up helpers on the game-winner.

Scott Adams earned the win in net for the Kings, while Loon-Stewardson was named the club’s player of the game.
