Kings start bantam provincials at 0-2
ROCKLAND, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Kings are off to a 0-2 start at the all-Ontario AAA bantam championship in Rockland, Ont., after opening day action.
Thunder Bay began with a 3-0 loss to the London Jr. Knights before dropping a 6-4 decision to the host Eastern Ontario Wild in their second game of the day.
Luke Drewitt tallied twice in the victory for the Jr. Knights while goaltender Owen Say stopped all 18 shots he faced to post the shutout for London.
Christian Cicgoi made 30 saves, including a second period penalty shot, in defeat for the Kings.
In the night cap the Wild jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Zachary Fortin got one back for Thunder Bay, via the power play.
Eastern Ontario tacked on two more markers in the middle session to take a 4-1 lead into the third period.
The Wild kept coming and added another pair to make it 6-1 with 5:17 to go.
The Kings staged a late rally striking three times in the final five minutes to make it close, but ran out of time in the end.
Michael Stubbs, Jonathon Kilby and Joseph McCollum accounted for those final three goals.
Owen Belisle dished out a pair of assists in a losing cause for Thunder Bay while Jordan Smith suffered the defeat in net.
The Kings return to game action at the provincials Tuesday when they meet the Whitby Wildcats at 6 p.m. back in Rockland.
