Peewee Kings victorious in provincial’s opener

TTAWA – The Thunder Bay Kings got a goal and assist each from Matthew Lysak and Max Leduc to helped lead them to a 4-2 triumph over Ottawa Myers Automotive Monday afternoon in the opening day of play at the 2019 All-Ontario Peewee Hockey Championship in Ottawa.

The Kings came out quickly by opening the scoring 39 seconds into the contest on a Lucas Bertolin marker.

Ottawa answered five minutes later to knot the score at 1-1 after one.

An early power play tally in the middle session helped Thunder Bay go back on top as Lysak finished off a Leduc feed at 2:30.

The hosts came back to tie 66 seconds into the third period, but the Kings countered once more as Lysak helped set-up Leduc for the eventual game-winner at 1:35.

Carter Deschamps then iced it with an empty netter in the final moments to secure the victory.

Thunder Bay goaltender Carter George was solid making 24 stops to record the victory.

The Kings hit the ice twice Tuesday as they take on the Nickel City Sons of Sudbury at 10 a.m. before finishing up with the Markham Waxers at 4 p.m.
