THUNDER BAY – Two of the four Thunder Bay Kings’ clubs will be on the ice this weekend in southern Ontario, with the under-16 side taking part in the annual Gloria Rints Memorial International Silver Stick Tournament in Whitby while the U13s will be competing in Greater Toronto Hockey League play.

There are 30 AAA U16 teams competing at the Iroquois Park Sports Centre in Whitby, with Thunder Bay opening up Friday at 12:30 p.m., as they take on the Huron-Perth Lakers.

They’ll then tangle with the Chicago Mission, later that day, in an 8:40 p.m. start.

Right back at it Saturday, the Kings meet the North York Rangers at 8:45 a.m., followed by a 2:05 p.m. encounter with the Peterborough Petes.

Quarter-final play at the Silver Stick goes Saturday evening, while the semifinals and the championship contests goes Sunday.

As for the under-13 Kings, they’ll tangle with the Mississauga Senators Friday at 7:25 p.m. to commence their latest round of GTHL competition.

Saturday’s slate for the U13s have them facing off with the Toronto Titans and the Reps Hockey Club at 10:40 a.m. and 4:10 p.m. respectively.

They’ll then wrap-up the weekend Sunday morning versus the Don Mills Flyers at 9:25 a.m.

THE WEEK THAT WAS: The U15 Kings went 0-3-1 in the GTHL last week.

They opened with a 2-2 draw with the Markham Majors, seeing Brady Nash and Jackson Walker score in the tie.

Next came a 4-1 setback at the hands of the Reps Hockey Club and saw Walker notch the lone tally in defeat.

They were then blanked 3-0 by the North York Rangers and clipped 5-0 against the Toronto Red Wings.

Thunder Bay’s under-18 squad picked up their second win of the season by defeating the Markham Majors 5-2.

Then taking on the top three teams in the U18 division of the GTHL, the Kings dropped a 3-1 result to the Toronto Marlboros, were humbled 8-0 by the Toronto Jr. Canadiens, who have won five straight, then saw the front-running Vaughan Kings strike in the final moments to pull out a narrow 4-3 triumph to hand Thunder Bay a late loss.
