Major midget Kings fall to 1-1 at NAPHL Dixon Cup playoff tournament

TROY, Mich. – The Thunder Bay major midget Kings dropped a narrow 2-1 decision to Omaha AAA of Nebraska Friday in their second game at the North American Prospects Hockey League’s Dixon Cup Gold Division championship tournament in Troy, Mich.

After opening with a 4-3 overtime triumph over the Madison Capitols in their initial contest, Thunder Bay fell to 1-1 with the defeat vs. Omaha.

Following a scoreless first period, Omaha got on the board late in the middle stanza on a Brendan Sheehan effort.

They then went up by a pair six and a half minutes into the third thanks to a man advantage marker from Kendrick Frost.

The Kings pulled to within one with 6:06 remaining in regulation as Elijah Loon-Stewardson scored on the power play on an assist from Fletcher Anderson, but that’s as close as they would get before time expired.

Ryan Fanti suffered the setback in net for Thunder Bay.

The major midget Kings return to the ice Saturday at 5 p.m. as they meet the St. Louis Selects.
