Bantam Kings advance to final NAPHL Future Prospects tourney

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay bantam Kings are off to the championship game of the North American Prospects Hockey League’s Futures tournament in Blaine, Minn.

Thunder Bay got a pair of goals from Mason Bazaluk to help them defeat Omaha AAA of Nebraska 2-1 Sunday and finish with a round robin record of 3-1, which was good enough to send them to the title game Monday at 8:30 a.m. vs. the Alaska Oilers.

Alaska defeated the Kings 8-4 in their opening game Friday.

In Sunday’s contest, Omaha opened the scoring at 3:06 of the first, but Bazaluk supplied the equalizer four minutes later.

He then notched the game-winner late in the second period to help the Kings finish the eight-team event with a solid 3-1 record.

Stephan Bourgeois stopped 13 of the 14 shots he faced to record the win for Thunder Bay.

After the NAPHL Futures final, next up for the bantam Kings will be the Big Nickel tournament in Sudbury Nov. 3-6.
