Bantam Kings complete unbeaten weekend

THUNDER BAY – Fresh off capturing the Hockey Northwestern Ontario AAA district title earlier in the day, the Thunder Bay bantam Kings capped off an unbeaten weekend by blanking the Fort Frances Canadians 5-0 Saturday evening at Fort William First Nation Arena.

The contest was an exhibition encounter to serve as a tune-up for both clubs heading into provincial AAA bantam championship March 27-31 at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.

Owen Perala opened the scoring five minutes into the first period then the hosts picked up another a couple shifts later courtesy of a Mason Bazaluk effort.

Travis Hensrud made it 3-0 Thunder Bay in the second stanza to record the lone tally of the frame.

Bazaluk added another early in the third before a Dawson Lampi power play goal in the final minute rounded out the scoring.

Connor Lemieux stopped all 10 shots he faced to post the shutout for the Kings with Mason Vogrig seeing 29 attempts fired his way in the loss for the Canadians.

The two sides will meet again Friday in a two-game set in Fort Frances at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with each contest being held at The Duke, Couchiching First Nation Arena.
