Bantam Kings drilled by Alaska Oilers in NAPHL Future Prospects opener

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay bantam Kings were drilled 8-4 by The Alaska Oilers Friday afternoon in their opening game of the North American Prospects Hockey League’s Future Prospects tournament in Blaine, Minn.

Thunder Bay did get off to a good start notching the lone tally of the first period courtesy of Matthew Halushak with a minute and a half left in the session.

Alaska was quick to level the proceedings in the second stanza as they connected just 13 seconds after the face-off.

After Michael Stubbs put the Kings back on top at 6:17, the Oilers responded with three goals in just over a two-minute span to go in front 4-2.

Stubbs added another at 10:24, but once again Alaska countered seconds later to make it 5-3 after two.

Another early Oilers marker to begin the third added to their cushion.

Thunder Bay managed to add one more via the man advantage from Stubbs to finish off a hat trick, but Alaska tacked on two more late to secure the win.

Nicholas DeGrazia and Konner Kuuskivi dished out two assists apiece in defeat.

Connor Lemieux suffered the setback in net for the Kings.

The club returns to the ice this evening as they take on the Wenatchee Wolverines from Washington State at 7:15 p.m.
