Busy NAPHL weekend in store for Kings
THUNDER BAY, Ont. – It will be a busy weekend for the Thunder Bay Kings AAA program as three of its teams will be in Blaine, Minn., competing.
Both the major and minor midget Kings will take to the ice in the second round of the North American Prospects Hockey League while the bantam squad will be participating in the debut of the NAPHL’s Future Prospects tournament.
Game action for the major midget under-18 Kings begins Saturday at 4 p.m. when they meet Minnesota Elite Northeast.
A pair of contests will be on the club’s slate Sunday starting off with an 11 a.m. match-up vs. the New Jersey Titans before they wrap-up the day against Pursuit of Excellence of Kelowna, B.C. at 8:30 p.m.
They will then finish up Monday with a 12:30 p.m. contest with the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres U-18 side.
As for the minor midgets, they too open up play Saturday as they tangle with Minnesota Elite Central at 8 a.m. before meeting the Colorado Springs Tigers at 6:30 p.m.
The under-16’s lone game Sunday is at 3 p.m. vs. the California Titans.
They will then finish up Monday at 10:30 a.m. as they take on the Valley Forge Minutemen.
A total of eight teams will make up the NAPHL Future Prospects event and Thunder Bay starts off with two tilts on Friday.
The Alaska Oilers provide the competition in the Kings’ initial contest beginning 12:30 p.m. before they conclude the day by facing the Wenatchee Wolverines from Washington State at 7:15 p.m.
Action on Saturday has the bantams squaring off against the West Coast Renegades from Utah at 6:30 p.m.
They will then finish up round robin play Sunday vs. Omaha AAA at 9 a.m.
The top side in each of the two four-team divisions will then play in the final Monday at 8:30 a.m.
