Kings conclude NAPHL regular season play

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay major and minor midget Kings wrapped up the regular season portion of North American Prospects Hockey League play Monday with both clubs suffering defeats in their respective finales in Blaine, Minn.

The major midgets fell 7-3 to the Madison Capitols while the minor midgets were bitten 6-0 by the Arizona Bobcats.

Madison started strong and built up a 5-0 lead after two periods of play.

Thunder Bay rallied in the third getting consecutive goals from Benjamin Pretty and single off the stick of Michael Moga to pull within two before the Capitols iced it with two late tallies to secure the victory.

Michael Vecchio had two assists in the setback for the Kings.

Seth McKay started and suffered the loss allowing four against on 14 shots while Jordan Smith handled 17 of 20 in relief.

In the minor midget match-up, Arizona scored twice in each period and outshot Thunder Bay 32-15 enroute to the shutout. Stephan Bourgeois picked up the loss in net.

With the regular season complete Thunder Bay finished in 13th spot in the under-18 division with a 7-10-0-1 record while the under-16 Kings ended up tied for 10th on a 7-9-1-0 mark.

Both teams will now compete in the NAPHL’s Silver Division Consolation Championship playoff round, Feb. 16-19 in Troy, Mich.
