Kings blanked NAPHL U-16 consolation final

TROY, Mich. – The Thunder Bay minor midget Kings dropped a 2-0 decision to the Washington Little Capitals Monday morning in the North American Prospects Hockey League’s Dixon Cup Silver Division under-16 consolation final in Troy, Mich.

It was a goaltenders’ battle through two periods of play that kept the contest scoreless.

Washington would break the deadlock with 10:12 remaining in regulation as Ethan Privman buried the rebound from the left side off a Victor Musoke shot from close range that eluded Thunder Bay netminder Eric Vanska.

The Kings pressed hard for the equalizer in the late going generating a number of quality chances, but could not solve Capitals goaltender Connor Leslie.

With Vanska on the bench in favour of an extra attacker in the final minute, Washington secured the win with a long range empty netter from Austin Pick in the final moments.

Leslie finished with 15 stops to post the shutout for the Capitals who fired 33 attempts on the Thunder Bay net.

The minor midget Kings will now get set for the Northern Ontario Cup, March 2-4, in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., then the OHL Cup later next month in Toronto.
