Kings pick-up 1st win at bantam provincials

ORILLIA, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Kings rode the strength of a four-goal third period to pull out 6-5 come from behind victory over the Nickel City Sons from Sudbury in Day 3 action at the 2018 All-Ontario Bantam Championship in Orillia.

Thunder Bay also came out flying grabbing a quick 2-0 lead before the contest was a minute old on markers from Hunter Matyasovzsky and Jeremy Dunmore.

Nickel City countered however with a trio of tallies before the first period was up to take a lead into the intermission.

They then added the lone goal of the middle stanza go up 4-2 after two.

The Kings started their rally in the final frame with Dunmore notching his second of the afternoon.

After the Sudbury side went up 5-3 moments later, Thunder Bay sMARLed back with three quick strikes to pull out the win as Noah Broughton, Dunmore and Jack Michaelis all scored in rapid succession to secure the decision.

Kohl Johnson had two assists to aid the Kings’ cause.

Gage Stewart picked up the win in relief of Brayden McKever.

With the result, the club improves to 1-3 in the seven-team event.

Thunder Bay concludes round robin play Thursday with a pair of tilts as they take on the Ottawa Valley Titans at 10 a.m. before finishing up with the Don Mills Flyers of Toronto at 4 p.m.
