Thunder Bay drops OHL Cup opener to Brantford

TORONTO – The Thunder Bay minor midget Kings came up on the wrong end of a 5-1 score Wednesday as they were defeated by the Brantford 99ers in their opening game of the OHL Cup in Toronto.

Brantford got the early jump grabbing a 2-0 lead after one period of play on tallies from Maquire Duwyn and Theo Hill.

Nikolas Campbell brought the Kings closer with the lone marker of the middle session as he finished off a Trystan Goodman feed at 14:11.

However, the 99ers put the game away in the third with three unanswered goals from Andrew Casasanta, Ellis Rickwood and Duwyn.

Brantford also held the edge in shots by a 29-25 count with Ben Edwards picking up the win and Eric Vanska the loss.

Thunder Bay returns to the ice tonight as they take on a strong Toronto Jr. Canadiens squad at 8:45 p.m.
