Final NAPHL event of season awaits Kings in Michigan

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Kings two midget teams are off to Troy, Mich., this weekend to wrap-up North American Prospects Hockey League play for the 2017-18 season.

Awaiting the Kings will be the NAPHL’s Dixon Cup playoffs, where they will be competing in the Silver Division consolation tournament, while the Top 8 clubs through regular season competition will compete in the Gold Division in both the U-18 and U-16 age groups.

Game action for the major midget Kings begins Friday at 9 a.m. as they take on the Arizona Bobcats.

They will then have a pair of tilts on the docket Saturday beginning with a 9 a.m. match-up with the California Titans before wrapping vs. the Everett Silvertips from Washington State at 5 p.m.

Sunday has them taking on another Washington side, in the Wenatchee Wolves, at 1:15 p.m.

Over in the under-16 group, Thunder Bay will be up and at it early in there first three round robin contests.

They begin Friday at 7:15 a.m. against the Valley Forge Minutemen before another 7:15 a.m. start Saturday as they take on the California Titans U-16 squad.

Sunday sees the Kings tangling with the Connecticut Elite at 7 a.m. before concluding with the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres at 5 p.m.

Of the teams in the Silver Division U-18 and U-16 playoffs, the top two in each group will meet in their respective finals Monday morning.
