Anderson’s hat trick leads major midget Kings to 1st NAPHL victory

BLAINE, Minn. – Fletcher Anderson scored three times, including the game-winner with just over seven minutes remaining, to help lead the Thunder Bay major midget Kings to a 4-2 triumph over Pursuit of Excellence of Kelowna, B.C. in North American Prospects Hockey League competition Sunday night in Blaine, Minn.

Anderson staked Thunder Bay to an early lead in the contest as he connected 87 seconds after the opening face-off.

POE came right back and notched the equalizer a minute later on a Chase Sakic effort as the son of former NHL great and Hockey Hall of Fame inductee Joe Sakic beat Kings starter Seth McKay.

However, Anderson’s second of the night put the major midgets back in front 3:17 into the middle stanza.

Sakic added another for Pursuit of Excellence 3:45 into the third only to see Anderson finish off his hat trick six minutes later to put Thunder Bay back in front for good.

Evan Nicholas added some insurance for the Kings at 11:34 to round out the scoring helping his side earn their first NAPHL win of the season.

Logan Mihalcin dished out two assists to aid the Kings offensive cause.

Thunder Bay held the edge in shots on goal in the contest by a 28-17 count with McKay picking up the win in net.

The Kings return to the ice Monday with a 12:30 p.m. contest vs. the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres under-18 side.
