Bantam Kings blank Valley Forge in NAPHL Future Prospects opener

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay bantam Kings got off to a solid start Friday in Day 1 play of North American Prospects Hockey League Future Prospects tournament in Blaine, Minn., as they blanked the Valley Forge Minutemen 3-0.

Meanwhile at the Spirit of Duluth tourney, the peewee Kings were edged 3-2 by the Centennial Cougars in their first game in the Twin Ports.

In the bantam contest, Alex Atwill supplied the eventual game-winner late in the opening period with assists going to Kohl Johnson and Owen Perala.

After a scoreless middle session, Thunder Bay took advantage of a power play that carried into the final frame as Michael Stubbs finished off the work of Nicholas DeGrazia and Nikolas Campbell to make it 2-0 just nine seconds into the session.

Dawson Lampi then iced it with a shorthanded effort with just over two minutes remaining to round out the night’s scoring.

Connor Lemieux finished with a dozen saves to post the shutout for the Kings, who fired 24 shots on the Valley Forge net.

Saturday has the bantams facing off with the New Jersey Titans at 10:30 a.m.

As for the peewee Kings, they have a pair of contests back in Duluth Saturday beginning with a 12:15 p.m. encounter vs. the Edina Hornets before concluding round robin action against the Moorhead Spuds at 8 p.m.
