Bantam Kings start 2-0 in NAHL Future Prospects event
Thunder Bay peewees begin 1-1 at Spirit of Duluth

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay bantam Kings are off to a 2-0 start at the North American Hockey League’s Future Prospects event in Blaine, Minn., while the peewee squad began Day 1 at the 41st annual Spirit of Duluth tournament with a 1-1 record.

In Thunder Bay’s bantam opener, it was all Kings as they cruised to the one-sided 7-0 triumph over the Everett Silvertips of Washington State.

It was scoreless until the latter stages of the first period before Jack Michaelis and Nolan Desjardins tallied 59 seconds apart to put the club up by two after one.

They then tacked on three more in the middle stanza thanks to a pair from Jeremy Dunmore before he set-up Sam Garon to make it 5-0 Thunder Bay.

The Kings then finished things off in the third on markers Kohl Johnson at even strength and Hunter Matyasovszky, via the power play, to round out the scoring.

Michaelis also doled out two assists to join Dunmore with three-point performances with netminder Gage Stewart being rarely tested in posting the shutout.

Against Wenatchee Wild the bantams came away victorious with a 3-1 triumph.

The Wild were first to strike in that contest on a Cade Littler effort at 11:27 before the Kings’ Matthew Valiquette countered with the equalizer just over three minutes later.

After a goalless second period, Thunder Bay put the game away in the third getting a man advantage marker from Johnson at 3:43 before Dunmore added some insurance in the late going to secure the decision.

Brayden McKever picked up the win in net.

Up next for the bantams will be a 1:30 p.m. encounter vs. Omaha AAA of Nebraska Saturday.

Meanwhile in Duluth, the Thunder Bay peewee side dropped a 6-0 decision to a strong Edina Hornets side in their opening match-up Friday.

Edina broke it open with five second period goals en route to the triumph

The Hornets outshot the Kings 24-13 in the contest with Carter George suffering the defeat in net for the peewees.

They then took on the Eastview Lightning Friday night and skated to a 4-1 victory.

Thunder Bay started strong by grabbing a 3-0 lead after one period of play on markers from Kyler Smith, Kaden Goodwin and Easton Glousher.

After a scoreless middle frame, Eastview got one back late in the third before Jonathan Beaucage iced it with an shorthanded tally with eight seconds to go.

Oliver Tuchenhagen recorded the win in goal for Thunder Bay.

The peewees Kings will meet the Centennial Flames in their next game Saturday, which gets underway at 3:45 p.m.
