Field set for TELUS Cup West Regional
THUNDER BAY – The field is now set for next week’s TELUS Cup West Regional, presented by Windsor Plywood, April 5-8, at Fort William First Nation Arena.
Joining the Hockey Northwestern Ontario champion Thunder Bay major midget Kings will be the title holders of the Manitoba Midget Hockey League, the Winnipeg Wild, as well as from the Saskatchewan AAA Midget Hockey League, the Notre Dame Hounds.
Rounding out the four-team field will be the HNO finalist representative, the Kenora Thistles.
All three district finals finished in three-game sweeps in a trio of best-of-five affairs.
The Kings claimed the HNO crown over the Thistles while the Wild need just the minimum to handle the Brandon Wheat Kings in a series that ended Monday and the Hounds took care of the Prince Albert Mintos by claiming the Saskatchewan championship Wednesday night with a 3-2 triumph.
Awaiting the West Regional winner will be a berth to the TELUS Cup Canadian National Midget event April 23-29 in Sudbury, Ont.
