Kings and Cambridge Hawks skate to 2-2 draw in bantam provincials play Tuesday
THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Kings picked up their second point at the all-Ontario AAA bantam championship at the Fort William Gardens Tuesday after they skated to a 2-2 draw with the Cambridge Hawks.
Action in the opening period saw the Kings notch the lone tally of the session as Owen Perala scored with three minutes left as Travis Hensrud and Nikolas Campbell supplied assists.
Cambridge collected the only goal of the middle session as Ryan Wilkinson struck with 64 seconds remaining in the stanza.
Thunder Bay went back on top six and a half minutes into the third with Perala once again finishing off the work of Hensrud and Campbell.
The Hawks came back once more to secure the tie when Ben McFarlane connected at 8:01 to round out the scoring.
Stephan Bourgeois faced 23 shots in net for the Kings while Nick Clay stopped 13 of 15 for Cambridge.
Perala and the Hawks’ Kent Cummings earned player of the game laurels for their respective sides.
Wednesday sees Thunder Bay returning to the ice for a pair of contests.
They’ll open up with a 1 p.m. match-up against the Toronto Marlboros before wrapping up the day vs. the Fort Frances Canadians at 7 p.m.
