Kings hit win column at bantam provincials

ROCKLAND, Ont. – An Owen Belisle goal with 6:03 remaining was the difference as the Thunder Bay Kings defeated the Whitby Wildcats 2-1 Tuesday in come from behind victory in Day 2 play at the all-Ontario AAA bantam championship in Rockland, Ont.

Whitby began the scoring in the contest 3:34 after the opening face-off only to see Christian Veneruzzo counter for the Kings just 17 seconds later to supply the equalizer.

After a scoreless middle session, Belisle bagged the game-winner in the third to give Thunder Bay the narrow victory.

Christian Cicigoi turned in a tremendous performance for Thunder Bay to post the win in net stopping 28 of the 29 shots fired his way.

Luke Pearson suffered the loss for the Wildcats facing 17 attempts in defeat.

With the result, the Kings improve to 1-2 overall while Whitby slipped to 2-1.

Next up at the all-Ontario bantam championship for Thunder Bay will be a 3 p.m. match-up Wednesday vs. the Ottawa Senators.
