ISDALE, Sask. – The Thunder Bay major midget Kings players and coaching staff paid an emotional visit to the Memorial honouring the Humboldt Broncos junior hockey team Wednesday afternoon as they traveled to Tisdale, Sask., for the TELUS Cup West Regional, which begins this evening.
The club took time to stop, visit, pay their respects and reflect at the memorial set-up at the site of the horrific tragedy involving the Broncos on April 6, 2018 in rural Saskatchewan.
While paying their respects, the team also left an autographed Kings jersey at the ever-growing memorial where a countless others have visited and payed homage over the course of the past year.
Thunder Bay opens up play at the regional tonight at 9:30 p.m. ET as they take on the host Tisdale Trojans.
They’ll then meet the Manitoba Midget Hockey League champion Brandon Wheat Kings Friday at 6 p.m. ET before wrapping up the round robin Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. the defending West Regional and TELUS Cup champion Notre Dame Hounds, the title holder of the Saskatchewan AAA Midget Hockey League.
The top two teams will meet in the final Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET.

The winner, or finalist should the Kings prevail, will advance to TELUS Cup Canadian National Midget Hockey Championship, April 22-29, at the Fort William Gardens in Thunder Bay.

BANTAM’S SEASON CONCLUDES: Despite a tremendous 48-save performance by goaltender Daniel Giardino, the Thunder Bay bantam Kings campaign to a close Thursday at the All-Ontario Bantam Championship in Toronto after they dropped a 3-1 decision to the host Toronto Titans.
E.J. Paddington notched the lone tally for the Kings in the contest while Emerson Pelletier and Alex Remenda dished out assists.
PEEWEES OFF TO OTTAWA: Meanwhile, Thunder Bay’s AAA peewee side will embark to the nation’s capital this weekend to compete at the All-Ontario Peewee Championship taking place April 8-12 at the Ice House on the campus of Carleton University in Ottawa.
Game action for the squad begins Monday at noon as they meet the host Ottawa Myers Automotive at noon.
Tuesday sees the Kings taking on the Nickel City Sons from Sudbury at 10 a.m. before rounding out the day vs. the Markham Waxers at 4 p.m.
They’ll then go up against the Brantford 99ers Wednesday at 2 p.m. before wrapping up round robin competition Thursday as they face off with the Ottawa Jr. 67s at 10 a.m. and Mississauga Senators at 4 p.m.
