Kings settle for tie with Don Mills Flyers at OHL Cup

TORONTO – The Thunder Bay minor midget Kings picked up their first point at the OHL Cup in Toronto Thursday after settling for a 3-3 overtime draw with the Don Mills Flyers.

After a scoreless first period, Thunder Bay struck twice in the middle session on goals from Mason Bazaluk at even strength and Michael Goegan via the power play to take the lead.

Don Mills did get one back late in the frame as the Kings carried a 2-1 cushion in to the third.

Moving on to the third, Bryson Cataldo put Thunder Bay back up by two at 2:29.

However the Flyers sMARLed back with a pair of Owen Saye tallies to knot the affair with nine and a half minutes to go.

Don Mills continued to press, but Kings` goaltender Eric Vanska shut the door from there, including stopping a late penalty shot and eight attempts in the five-minute OT to preserve the tie.

The Flyers held the edge in shots by a 38-27 count.

Thunder Bay wraps up round robin play Friday at 3 p.m. as they take on the Barrie Jr. Colts.
