LAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay Kings went a combined 3-0 Saturday in opening day action of Round 2 in the North American Prospect Hockey League in Blaine, Minn.
Thunder Bay’s minor midget side defeated the Arizona Bobcats 3-1 and the Florida Alliance 7-2 while the Kings’ major midgets slipped past Arizona’s under-18 squad 3-2.
In the U-16 victory vs. the Bobcats, Thunder Bay fell behind early but rebounded with markers from Noah Broughton, Jeremy Dunmore and Hunter Matyasovzsky to pull out the win.
Dalton Mayes chipped in with two assists in the triumph while netminder Gage Stewart made 17 stops to pick up the win.
In the decision over Florida, Thunder Bay received goals from Dunmore, Matyasovzsky, Shaymus Stevenson, Colton Crysler, Johnny McCollum, Jack Michaelis and Matthew Valiquette while Alex Atwill dished out a pair of helpers.
Stewart earned another victory between the pipes for the Kings.
Sunday sees the minor midgets taking on the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes at 6:15 p.m.
As for the major midget decision, Nikolas Campbell shorthanded, along with Travis Hensrud and Peter Hannula at even strength accounted for the Thunder Bay goals.
Goalkeeper Jordan Smith picked up the win.
Sunday’s slate sees a pair of games on the major midget slate as they meet the Colorado Springs Tigers at 4 p.m. before concluding the day with a 10:15 p.m. encounter vs. the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres.
