Lefebvre stands tall in Kings’ OHL Cup finale

ORONTO – Thunder Bay Kings netminder Julien Lefebvre stood tall stopping all 35 shots he faced to backstop his side to a 5-0 victory Friday over the Waterloo Wolves at the OHL Cup minor midget tournament in Toronto.

With the result, Thunder Bay wraps the event with a 2-2 record, matching their best finish since back in 2014.

The Kings best-ever finish at the OHL was in 2010 when they went 3-2 overall.

Among those on their roster that year was goaltender Matt Murray, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Friday’s match-up saw Thunder Bay collect the eventual game-winner late in the first period as Alex Atwill put one upstairs from the left side with two minutes remaining in the frame.

Some stellar stops by Lefebrve kept it 1-0 for the Kings until Jeremy Dunmore added some insurance midway through the third as he banked an attempt on net off a Waterloo defender and in.

They came right back with another 40 seconds later with Johnny McCollum finishing off a two-on-one during a man advantage.

Dunmore then tacked on two more by scoring twice into an empty net to secure the triumph.
