HUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Happy Time Tours major midget Kings will travel to Grand Forks, N.D., this weekend to take part in the annual North Dakota Hockey Showcase at Ralph Engelstad Arena.
The three-team event will see Thunder Bay taking on both a strong Winnipeg Wild side as well as Team North Dakota with four games in all being on the docket.
Friday evening will be a tough test as they will open up against the Wild at 8:30 p.m., as Winnipeg has yet to taste defeat this season.
They are an impressive 12-0 in Manitoba Midget Hockey League play to commence the campaign.
Saturday has the the club meeting North Dakota at 10 a.m. before finishing up with the Wild at 2 p.m.
The club will then round out the weekend Sunday at 10 a.m. with another meeting vs. TND.
Meanwhile, the Sportop minor midget Kings are off to Fort Frances for a three-game set against the Fort Frances Muskies high school side.
The two teams will place twice Saturday, at 2 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., before wrapping up the series Sunday at 10 a.m.
Also on the ice will be the Maritime Petroleum Advisory Services bantam Kings as they head to suburban Winnipeg for a trio of tilts with the RINK Academy Nationals bantam prep squad.
They’ll start up Friday at 8:30 p.m., then face off again Saturday at 2:30 p.m. while the finale is slated for Sunday at 11:15 a.m.
The bantams split an earlier set vs. the Nationals back in Thunder Bay in mid-September winning 3-2, tying 4-4 and falling 3-2 in three closely contested match-ups at Fort William First Nation Arena.
