Major midget Kings 2-0 to begin TTS Prospects tourney

TROY, Mich. – The Thunder Bay major midget Kings are off to a 2-0 start at the Troy Top Shelf North American Future Prospects tournament currently taking place in Troy, Mich.

Thunder Bay began play with a 3-2 come from behind victory over the Kensington Valley Rebels in their opener Friday before skating to a 3-1 triumph over the North Pittsburgh Wildcats Saturday afternoon.

Against the Michigan-based Rebels, the Kings got a pair of third period goals from Mason Moffat to help them rally for the triumph.

Kensington Valley opened the scoring at 1:10 of the first period and held that lead into the second stanza.

In the middle frame Thunder Bay tied it midway through on a Jacob Brown effort after he buried a pass from Garret Gammond.

After the Rebels retook the lead later in the frame taking a 2-1 cushion into the third, the major midgets came back in the final session with Moffat tying it before proceeding to supply the game-winner in the comeback win.

Tyler Szturm earned the decision in goal for the Kings turning aside 22 of the 24 shots fired his way.

In the decision over Pittsburgh, Brown gave Thunder Bay the lead at 10:49 of the first.

Following a Wildcats marker, Brown would notch his second of the game at 8:02 in the second period to make it a 2-1 game.

It stayed that way until the late going when Cody Bruchkowski iced it with an empty netter to seal the win for the Kings.

Ryan Fanti stopped 27 of 28 shots to register the victory.

The Kings return to the ice later this evening as they take on the Carmel Gold Icehounds of Indiana at 8:20 p.m.

Round robin action for the club concludes Sunday at 12:15 p.m. when they meet AWP Elite from Fort Wayne, Ind.
