3 Kings’ side to compete in Blaine, Minn., this weekend

THUNDER BAY – A trio of Thunder Bay Kings sides will be off to Blaine, Minn., this weekend to compete in North American Prospects Hockey League action.

Both the major and midget Kings will take part in Round 2 of NAPHL regular season play while the bantam side will go for gold in that organization’s Future Prospects Tournament.

The under-18 major midgets start Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when they take on the Valley Forge Minutemen.

They will then have a pair of tilts Sunday as they meet the Wenatchee Wolves at 11:30 a.m. before rounding out the day against another Washington State side, the Everett Silvertips, at 9 p.m.

Rounding out the competition for the U-18 Kings will be the California Titans at noon Monday.

As for the minor midgets, they have a pair of match-ups on the slate Saturday starting with the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres at 12:15 p.m. followed by the New Jersey Titans at 7:30 p.m.

Sunday has them meeting the Valley Forge U-16s at 5:30 p.m. before squaring off with the Esmark Stars of Pittsburgh, Penn., at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

Meanwhile the bantam Kings open up vs. the Sioux Falls Stampede Friday at 11:30 a.m.

They’ll then tangle with the West Coast Renegades at 9:15 p.m.

Awaiting the bantams in their final round robin contest will be the Valley Forge U-14 squad Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Further opponents in Blaine for the bantams will be based on the results of their first three encounters.
