Coach Parry Ready to Guide the U18s

U18 Head Coach Nick Parry comes to the Kings program after coaching with the LJHL Champion Current River Storm Junior B and KC Sabres this past season.

As a lead up to the upcoming season, here is an interview with Coach Parry:

Describe your coaching style.

I like to form a foundation built on team culture and hard work which hones in accountability and everyone having a voice. I am honest and forthright with my players and want to see everyone succeed in hockey, education and life.

What about the U18 group excites you as a coach?

I am excited to navigate the players through their final years of minor hockey and help move them on to the next level in their hockey careers.

What are the most important qualities for a hockey player, both on and off ice?

Passion for the game, coachability, dedication, resilience, hard work and willingness to make sacrifices.

How do you approach player development?

By identifying strengths and areas to improve, setting clear and achievable goals and creating individualized player development plans.

Why did you apply to be a Kings coach for this season?

Coming to the Kings organization is something that was always in the back of my mind. I am always striving to continue developing and growing as a coach and felt that this was a great opportunity for me to do just that.

What are you looking forward to the most about the upcoming season?

Having the opportunity to coach and represent our city and region in the GTHL and making a run at the Telus Cup National U18AAA Championship.

Tell us about your hockey playing career.

I grew up playing locally and developed through the PAMHA and TBMHA system. After Minor hockey was done, I spent 4 years (2008-2012) playing for the Nipigon Elks Jr B team of the LJHL. I still try to play when time permits in the local men’s leagues.

Tell us about your coaching experience.

I have been actively coaching in TBMHA since 2018, most recently with the KC Sabres U18’s. In 2022, I joined the LJHL expansion Junior B team Current River Storm as an assistant coach under the leadership of Head Coach, Robbie Untinen. This past season we won the LJHL championship and competed at the Central Canada Cup in Flin Flon, Manitoba.  Prior to coaching hockey I spent a number of years coaching and managing baseball teams for Port Arthur Nationals and the Thunder Bay Lakers.
