Fanti credited with shutout, but major midget Kings blanked 1-0 in shootout in NAPHL play

BLAINE, Minn. – Ryan Fanti made 22 saves in throughout regulation and overtime, but the Thunder Bay major midget Kings could not score as they were blanked 1-0 in a shootout by the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Sabres Monday afternoon as they wrapped up Round 2 play in the North American Prospects Hockey League at the Schwan Super Rinks in Blaine, Minn.

It was a battle of goaltenders throughout with Fanti and Shattuck-St. Mary’s Thomas Lalonde thwarting opposing shooters throughout three periods and a four-minute OT.

With extra shots required to determine a winner, it was the Sabres’ Jake Vaughan who would notch the lone tally there to give his side the second point in the contest.

Lalonde was stellar in net for SSM as he turned aside all 30 attempts he faced along with each of the three shots he saw in the shootout to record the shutout and the victory.

The major midget Kings return to the ice Friday as they travel to Nipigon to take on the hometown Elks in Lakehead Junior Hockey League play at 7:30 p.m.
